Possibility & Purpose
Possibility and Purpose is a collection born during the pandemic. An unprecedented time that left most directionless and without methods to manage their environments or emotions. It was a hardship for everyone, one where we needed each other’s support. However, despite our shared challenges, each of us was forced to manage our unique moments, moments that grew into months and years.
The extended physical and emotional isolation changed our personal stories forever. And the experience will impact our choices as individuals and communities for generations. Though experiences can be shared, each person’s perception of that time is unique. All of us have our own stories – stories that should build a stronger future for everyone.
These paintings are part of my personal experience put to paper. Painting holds all my secrets and offers me direction. Written into each painting is both intention and resolve. I focus on what I work to make happen, in and out of the studio. Solutions and direction for managing life’s challenges come to me as the surfaces of my paintings develop.
Paper is my preferred substrate. It represents the resilience we all need, and I identify with its characteristics. Paper is underappreciated and cast aside without thought, often appearing weak and valueless because it is so common. Reclaiming paper for art offers a higher responsibility to the product, along with the opportunity to exhibit its possibility and strength.
